Louis Pasteur is perhaps best known for his method of sterilizing food, known as pasteurization, in which food or liquid is heated to a high temperature to kill potentially harmful bacteria making the food safe to eat. His research interests focused on the study of microbes. During his career, his efforts led to other important accomplishments as well, including development of vaccines for rabies and anthrax and discovering the process of fermentation in addition to developing pasteurization. His efforts not only helped better the health of society, but also helped industries to progress.
