Calmette and Guerin are responsible for the discovery of what is now called the “Bacillus Calmette-Guérin,” a bacteria used in the BCG vaccine against tuberculosis. In 1924 vaccination of newborn infants with BCG began in France and the practice eventually spread to other countries. The BCG vaccine is still used today.
